This couldn’t have been announced at a better time. The Elder Scrolls MMORPG has long been rumored and now Bethesda Softworks has finally issued an official press release that confirms Elder Scrolls Online is now being developed.
Last year, the release of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was a big hit. Skyrim earned hundreds of Game of the Year awards and 10 million units were shipped within the first month of its launch. It currently holds the distinction of being the fastest selling title in Steam’s history. With the buzz around this mega-hit, the Elder Scrolls franchise is stronger than ever so its a great time to create an MMO because fan interest is at its peak.
The Elder Scrolls Online is being developed for PC and Mac with a possible release date of 2013. Matt Firor, who is known for his work on the MMORPG Dark Age of Camelot, heads the dev team.
“We have been working hard to create an online world in which players will be able to experience the epic Elder Scrolls universe with their friends, something fans have long said they wanted,” said Matt Firor, game director of The Elder Scrolls Online. “It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years. The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise.”
The Elder Scrolls Online will be available in English, German and French languages.
